The group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup has come to an end. The final matches, played on Sunday, including Austria's 3-3 draw with Algeria and Argentina's 3-1 victory over Jordan, completed the Round of 32 bracket for the tournament being hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The remaining 32 teams now know their opponents for the first knockout round. The qualified nations secured their places by finishing in the top two of their respective groups or by ranking among the eight best third-placed teams in this expanded 48-team edition.
Among the tournament favorites still in contention are Morocco, Brazil, Argentina, France, Spain, England, Portugal, the Netherlands, Germany, as well as the three host nations: Canada, the United States and Mexico.
Africa will be strongly represented in the knockout stage with a record nine qualified teams: Morocco, South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Egypt, Senegal, DR Congo, Cape Verde and Algeria. This unprecedented achievement highlights the continued rise of African football on the global stage.
