Morocco and Mauritania have taken a new step forward in their religious cooperation. On Tuesday in Rabat, the two countries signed an executive program covering the 2026–2028 period to strengthen their partnership in the fields of habous and Islamic affairs.

Signed by the relevant ministries of both countries, the agreement aims to enhance institutional coordination and promote a deeper exchange of expertise and best practices.

Moroccan Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs Ahmed Toufiq stated that the program will ensure better monitoring of joint commitments while adapting shared experiences to the social and scientific realities of each country. He also highlighted the strength of the historic ties between Rabat and Nouakchott.

For his part, Mauritanian Minister of Islamic Affairs and Original Education El Fadil Ahmed Louly said that the agreement opens the way to a new and promising phase of cooperation serving religion, knowledge, and social development.

The Mauritanian official expressed his country's interest in Morocco's experience, particularly in the training of imams and ulema, mosque management, and the promotion of Holy Quran education.

The program also provides for enhanced cooperation in the modernization of the habous and zakat systems in order to strengthen their contribution to development and social solidarity.

Building on previous agreements, notably the 2004 Memorandum of Understanding and the 2020–2022 Executive Agreement signed in 2019, this new roadmap further consolidates achievements and deepens the ties between the two African countries.
