Chad has officially launched its third General Population and Housing Census (RGPH-3) across all 23 provinces of the country.
This nationwide operation aims to update the country’s demographic data in order to better guide public policies and development strategies.
According to Chadian authorities, the information collected will help improve the planning of educational, health and road infrastructure, strengthen access to drinking water and electricity, and support social programs targeting young people and women.
The census results are also expected to provide reliable indicators to guide public and private investment, facilitate feasibility studies, and enhance the country’s attractiveness to investors and technical and financial partners.
To successfully carry out this large-scale statistical operation, more than 35,000 census workers and supervisors have been recruited and trained in accordance with international standards.
Chad conducted its two previous censuses in 1993 and 2009. According to the National Institute of Statistics, the country’s population is estimated at nearly 21.5 million inhabitants in 2026.
