The government of Equatorial Guinea has submitted its collective resignation, marking a major political turning point amid growing criticism over the management of public affairs and the implementation of government priorities.

During an extraordinary Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua officially tendered the resignation of his entire government. Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue will, however, remain in office, according to official sources cited by local media.

Addressing the nation, the outgoing prime minister acknowledged that his administration had achieved no more than 10% of its assigned objectives since taking office two years ago. This performance was deemed insufficient by the country’s highest authorities.

In a message posted on X, the vice president described the resignation as an act of political responsibility based on an assessment of the government’s performance. He stated that the implementation of government commitments had fallen short of expectations.

The decision comes amid repeated calls from President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo to strengthen governance and combat corruption, as the country seeks to diversify its economy in response to the gradual decline in oil production. Authorities are particularly focusing on the development of strategic sectors such as agriculture to support economic growth and reduce dependence on hydrocarbons.
