Burkina Faso has taken a major step forward in its digital transformation agenda with the validation of its future national roadmap for artificial intelligence covering the 2026–2030 period.

Developed following a national workshop held at the Virtual University of Burkina Faso, the document aims to position AI as a tool for economic development, public administration modernization, and the strengthening of the country’s digital sovereignty.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Digital Transition, Posts and Electronic Communications, the ministry’s Secretary General, Dr. Borlli Michel Jonas Somé, emphasized the authorities’ determination to develop artificial intelligence tailored to the country’s needs and realities.

"The objective is not simply to follow a global trend, but to place artificial intelligence at the service of national development and the efficiency of public action," he stated before representatives of government institutions, the private sector, academia, civil society, and technical partners.

The roadmap seeks to structure the country’s vision for AI and promote the emergence of a responsible, inclusive, and competitive technological ecosystem. It forms part of the RELANCE Plan 2026–2030 and the "AI for All” program, one of the flagship initiatives of the digital transformation agenda pursued by the Burkinabe government.

According to the authorities, this initiative represents a decisive step toward building an innovative digital economy capable of addressing development challenges while safeguarding Burkina Faso’s strategic interests and technological sovereignty.
