Closed since December 2021 following an inspection mission by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA, the Idriss Mahamat Ouya Stadium officially reopened on June 6, 2026, marking a major milestone for sport in Chad.

After four years of renovation work, the iconic stadium in N’Djamena has been completely transformed. Its capacity has increased from 20,000 to 30,000 seats, while the pitch and lighting system have been fully upgraded to meet international standards and provide better playing conditions.

Built in the 1970s and previously renovated in 2010, the stadium no longer met the requirements for hosting continental and international competitions. Its closure had deprived Chad of its main football venue.

The reopening match featured the national championship final between Aiglons FC and AS PSI. In front of a passionate crowd, Aiglons FC secured a 2–0 victory to claim the national title.

The reopening ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Allamaye Halina, also served as a platform for announcing new measures to support sports development across the country. Authorities revealed plans to provide football clubs in N’Djamena with fourteen pitches that meet CAF standards, while provincial clubs competing in the national championship will receive land for the construction of their own facilities.

The government also confirmed the revival of the Multi-Sports Arena project, aimed at providing young athletes with modern facilities for a variety of disciplines.

In addition, the Chadian Basketball Federation received a grant of 30 million CFA francs in recognition of the national team’s historic qualification for the U18 Africa Cup of Nations. A similar amount was awarded to the Chadian Taekwondo Federation following its two bronze medals at the African Championships.

Through these initiatives, Chad hopes to strengthen its sports infrastructure, support national federations, and nurture a new generation of athletes capable of representing the country on the African and international stage.
