In response to the resurgence of Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the spread of the disease in Uganda, Ghana has strengthened its national prevention framework to prevent the virus from entering its territory.
According to Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), health authorities have intensified epidemiological surveillance mechanisms, laboratory testing capacities, as well as case management and infection control measures.
The official stated that new protocols have been introduced in healthcare facilities across the country to facilitate the rapid detection, reporting, and management of suspected cases. He also noted that Ghana currently has three laboratories authorized to confirm Ebola infections.
As part of this preventive response, Ghana’s Ministry of Health announced that, in coordination with its international partners, it has implemented enhanced screening and monitoring measures at airports, seaports, and land border crossings. Travelers arriving from affected areas are also subject to strict health monitoring procedures.
