Uganda has taken a new step in its national sovereignty policy. President Yoweri Museveni has signed the National Sovereignty Protection Law, officially bringing it into force, according to a government statement.
The legislation aims to strengthen the country’s decision-making independence and safeguard the state’s strategic interests against external influence. It notably introduces stricter oversight of organizations and individuals affiliated with foreign entities, as well as tighter regulation of foreign funding and external support.
Implementation of the law will be overseen by the department in charge of peace and security under the Ministry of Interior.
Ugandan authorities believe the reform will enhance institutional coordination, political stability, and governance standards, while supporting the country’s economic transformation strategy and its relations with international partners.
