Malawian artist Onesimus has announced the release of his new album "Son of Grace,” scheduled for May 25 on major streaming platforms.
Named in tribute to his late mother, Grace Kalua, the project explores themes of African identity, love, and human relationships, through a sound strongly inspired by Afrobeats.
This new opus follows a highly successful year in 2024 for the Malawian artist. The album already features several standout tracks, including "Melanin” with Danya Devs and JZyNO, as well as "Phone Sex,” "Sheba” featuring Wave Rhyder, and "Amalobolo” with Kwanda.
"This album aims to paint a complete picture of modern Africa. It’s music that speaks about love, intimacy, and relationships, but also about my roots,” Onesimus explained.
"By collaborating with artists from different countries and singing in various African languages, we celebrate a culture without borders,” he added.
The project brings together several artists from across the continent, including Nutty O, Saint Realest, Chile One Mr Zambia, Wave Rhyder, Liema Phantsi, and Danya Devs.
Musically, "Son of Grace” blends multiple contemporary African influences, including Afrobeats, Afropop, Amapiano, and 3-step. The tracks incorporate lyrics in Chichewa, Chinyanja, isiZulu, isiXhosa, Nigerian Pidgin, and Sesotho, reflecting the continent’s rich cultural diversity.
One of the album’s tracks, "Why So Soon,” pays tribute to artists Malome Vector, Lizwi Wokuqala, and Da Mos, who passed away in 2024.
