The Beninese government approved, on Wednesday during a Council of Ministers meeting, a new National Development Plan (PND) for the 2026–2035 period, according to an official statement.
This strategic program aims to sustainably transform the country’s economy by accelerating its diversification. The government plans to strengthen the secondary sector, whose contribution to GDP is expected to reach 21.1% over the 2026–2035 decade, compared to an average of 16.3% between 2015 and 2024.
The plan also focuses on reducing social inequalities. The Gini index, used to measure inequality, is expected to decline from 34.4 in 2021 to an average of 30 over the next ten years.
In addition, the authorities aim to strengthen public governance and the rule of law. The index measuring institutional quality is projected to rise from 0.48 in 2024 to 0.52 during the plan’s implementation period.
Finally, the government stated that this PND will be implemented through future government action programs and will rely on 17 priority areas to support the country’s development through 2035.
