On March 6, Macky Sall appointed Me Sidiki Kaba as head of the government to lead the transitional period which will lead Senegal, in peace, to the presidential election on March 24. Who is this trusted man of the outgoing President?

Me Sidiki Kaba was appointed on March 6 by Macky Sall to lead the Senegalese government during the remaining 26 days of his mandate. A crucial mission for this new Prime Minister during this transitional period before the presidential election on March 24.

Born in Tambacounda in 1950, Kaba is a graduate of universities in Abidjan and Dakar, with degrees in law, philosophy, modern literature, and business law. Admitted to the Dakar bar in 1980, Kaba led the Assembly of States Parties of the International Criminal Court.

An active advocate in several NGOs, in 2001, he became the first African elected President of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH).

Since 2013, he has successively held three sovereignty ministries: Justice, Diplomacy, and Defense.

His appointment as Prime Minister comes amid a tense political atmosphere, marked by corruption allegations against the former Prime Minister, Amadou Ba.

This nomination follows the adoption of a general amnesty law that divides the country as it relates to events linked to political demonstrations between 2021 and 2024.

Me Sidiki Kaba unveiled the composition of his new government on March 8. The list of 19 candidates remains unchanged, according to the decision of the Constitutional Council.
