Mali is facing a sharp rise in cybercrime in 2025, with 1,338 cases recorded, including 834 still under investigation, according to authorities.

The cases handled mainly involve online fraud, identity theft, payment-related scams, attacks on computer systems, and offenses committed on social media. This diversity reflects the growing evolution and complexity of digital threats, local media report, citing the national body in charge of combating cybercrime.

In response, authorities have adopted a national cybersecurity strategy covering the period 2026–2030. It includes securing critical infrastructure, strengthening incident response mechanisms, improving institutional coordination, developing technical skills, and expanding international cooperation.

However, the high number of pending cases highlights a risk of overloading the judicial system. The competent body, operating under the authority of the prosecutor’s office, stresses the urgent need to strengthen investigative capacities and processing resources.

In this context, cybercrime is emerging as one of Mali’s main security, economic, and institutional challenges, amid increasingly cross-border digital threats in the region.
