Zambia is embarking on a transformation of its education system by investing in artificial intelligence.
The Ministry of Education plans to integrate this technology to support a curriculum focused on skills development.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Kelvin Mambwe, told the national television that AI is expected to improve classroom efficiency, reduce teachers’ workload, and enhance student performance.
According to him, this integration primarily aims to optimize teaching while supporting educators in their daily tasks. Training on the ethical use of artificial intelligence will also be rolled out soon.
Authorities are also working to structure this deployment to ensure the responsible adoption of these tools in schools.
At the same time, the government is accelerating the digitalization of schools and expanding internet access nationwide, including in rural areas. The goal is to prepare students for an increasingly technology-driven environment.
In the long term, AI is also expected to facilitate the design of educational projects and help align Zambia’s education system with international standards.
