His Majesty King Mohammed VI received Pedro Sanchez, President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain at the Royal Palace in Rabat on Wednesday, February 21.

In announcing that the Sovereign received the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, on Wednesday at the Royal Palace in Rabat, the Royal Cabinet emphasizes that this visit is part of the continuity of the new phase of bilateral relations, initiated since the meeting between His Majesty the King and the Spanish Prime Minister in April 2022, and the adoption, on that occasion, of the Joint Declaration between the two countries.

It was also indicated that this new dynamic is unfolding satisfactorily. It is marked by strengthening cooperation, coordination, and partnership in all areas, based on the principles of trust, mutual respect, ambition, good neighborliness, and respect for commitments.

The Royal Cabinet also emphasizes that during the Royal audience with Pedro Sanchez, the Spanish Prime Minister reiterated to His Majesty the King Spain's position, contained in the joint declaration of April 2022, considering the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the most serious, realistic, and credible basis for resolving this dispute. His Majesty the King thanked Spain for this new constructive and important position, the statement adds.

The same source indicates that the Sovereign and Pedro Sanchez highlighted the unique prospects for cooperation that are opening up between the two neighboring countries. The joint organization - with Portugal - of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, constitutes an additional lever for strengthening bilateral relations, the statement reads.

It was also emphasized that the Spanish Prime Minister hailed and expressed Spain's interest in the strategic initiatives launched by His Majesty the King, notably the Initiative of the African countries bordering the Atlantic, the Royal Initiative to promote access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Nigeria-Morocco Atlantic-African Gas Pipeline.
