In Madagascar, a new political phase is unfolding with the appointment of Mamitiana Rajaonarison as Prime Minister.

The decision was announced by the President of the Refoundation of the Republic, Colonel Michael Randrianirina, during an official ceremony at the presidential palace.

The head of state urged the new Prime Minister to quickly form a government capable of implementing the general policy of the Refoundation. He also emphasized the need to mobilize all the country’s vital forces in order to meet the expectations of the population.

Before becoming Prime Minister, Mamitiana Rajaonarison headed Madagascar’s Financial Intelligence Service (SAMIFIN), which is responsible for combating money laundering and terrorist financing. A former gendarmerie officer, he has also been involved in cases related to the fight against corruption.

This appointment comes in a context of political reshuffling, just days after the dissolution on March 9 of the government led by former Prime Minister Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo.
