Ethiopia and the United States have held high-level discussions focused on investment cooperation, macroeconomic reforms, and the promotion of sustainable economic growth, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening their bilateral economic partnership.
Ethiopian Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau to review key areas of collaboration.
The talks covered Ethiopia’s ongoing macroeconomic reform program, investment development, and the country’s overall economic development trajectory.
The discussions were also attended by Minister of Planning and Development Fitsum Assefa and the Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Eyob Tekalign.
Ahmed Shide briefed the American delegation on progress made under the reform agenda, highlighting its positive impact on the investment climate and the expanding opportunities in strategic sectors of the economy.
He emphasized the country’s favorable economic outlook, supported by policy clarity and structural adjustments.
The minister also expressed gratitude to the United States for its recent support to Ethiopia’s health sector and welcomed the continued contribution of multilateral financial institutions in advancing the country’s development priorities.
A key focus of the discussions was Ethiopia’s new international airport project, which the minister described as a strategic driver of growth, regional connectivity, and trade facilitation.
He invited U.S. companies and financial institutions to participate in the project through investment and technical support.
For his part, Deputy Secretary of State Landau praised the progress of Ethiopia’s reform program and noted the growing interest of American companies in the country.
He reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to expanding trade ties and deepening economic cooperation with Ethiopia.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, encouraging private sector participation, and fostering sustainable cooperation to support the economic prosperity of both nations.
