After stops in New York, Chicago, Melbourne, and Montreal, the exhibition Africa Fashion, designed by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, arrives in Paris at the Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac Museum.
The exhibition offers a unique dialogue between contemporary African fashion and the museum’s historical collections, highlighting the richness and vitality of today’s African creative scene.
Driven by a bold new generation of designers, the exhibition celebrates the rapid rise of African fashion on the international stage. At the crossroads of traditional craftsmanship and stylistic innovation, the works on display tell the story of a plural Africa—proud of its cultural heritage and firmly oriented toward the future.
For more than twenty years, from Johannesburg to the world’s major fashion capitals, African fashion has established itself as an inventive, engaged, and essential scene. The exhibition explores cross-cultural influences, personal narratives, and artistic statements from designers who are redefining the codes of contemporary fashion.
On this occasion, the Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac Museum showcases an exceptional selection of African textiles, accessories, and jewelry from its collections, rarely displayed to the public.
This ensemble is enhanced by photographs from the museum’s archives and participatory collections, creating a rich dialogue between heritage and contemporary creation.
Beyond the exhibition itself, the museum is hosting a series of events connected to Africa Fashion, including an evening on April 24, 2026, combining fashion, music, and dance, and a “Family Sunday” on April 26, featuring playful, exhibition-inspired activities for visitors of all ages.
