Meeting in Rabat on the occasion of the 15th Session of the Joint High Commission, the Head of the Moroccan Government and the Prime Minister of Senegal reaffirmed their shared determination to strengthen a historic partnership founded on fraternity, solidarity, and a fully shared forward-looking vision for Africa’s development.

On Monday, January 26, 2026, in Rabat, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch received the Prime Minister of the Republic of Senegal, H.E. Ousmane Sonko, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom in connection with the proceedings of the 15th Morocco–Senegal Joint High Commission on Cooperation. The talks were held in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, as well as the Ambassador of Morocco to Dakar, reflecting the importance both countries attach to this stage of bilateral dialogue.

On this occasion, both parties reaffirmed the constant commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal to elevating their cooperation to multidimensional levels, in line with the High Will of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and H.E. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal. This convergence of views is part of a long-standing relationship marked by enduring political trust and a shared ambition for Africa.

The discussions also highlighted both countries’ fidelity to the spirit of fraternity, solidarity, and mutual respect that characterizes their engagement in the service of the African continent. In this context, the role of the Moroccan community established in Senegal and the Senegalese community living in Morocco was praised as a key human and cultural vector enriching the privileged partnership between Rabat and Dakar.

Mr. Akhannouch further underscored the depth of the human, spiritual, and economic ties between the two countries, illustrated in particular by the eight visits made by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Senegal. The Head of Government emphasized Senegal’s pivotal role in the major Royal initiatives in support of Africa’s development, notably the Royal Initiative for Atlantic Africa, aimed at facilitating Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean and promoting growth-enhancing regional integration.

The discussions also highlighted the qualitative leap achieved in recent years in ministerial exchanges, the strengthening of the legal framework governing bilateral cooperation, and the consolidation of economic partnership and investments, particularly since Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s accession to the presidency of Senegal.

The holding of the 15th Morocco–Senegal Joint High Commission thus opens new prospects for strengthening sectoral cooperation through the implementation of structuring projects, particularly in agriculture, energy, trade, and the digital economy—key levers expected to give fresh momentum to a strategic partnership resolutely focused on the future of the African continent.
