Ethiopia will host the 32nd United Nations Climate Conference (COP32) in 2027, after receiving the support of African countries during COP30 in Brazil.
The decision was confirmed this week during a plenary session of COP30, currently being held in Belém, in the Brazilian Amazon — a region symbolically central to the global fight against climate change.
“We are deeply grateful for the confidence placed in the Ethiopian people and government,” said Ethiopia’s ambassador to Brazil, Leulseged Tadese Abebe, adding that “COP32 will play an important role in guiding climate action during this crucial decade.”
This designation gives Addis Ababa a key role in shaping the summit’s agenda and outcomes, offering the country an opportunity to play a greater part in global climate discussions.
