Morocco and Mauritania have signed, in Belém, a bilateral action plan aimed at strengthening their cooperation in the field of environment and sustainable development for the next two years.
The plan was signed by Leïla Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of Morocco, and Messouda Baham Mohamed Laghdaf, Mauritanian Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, on the sidelines of the Leaders’ Summit on Climate ahead of COP30. It falls within the framework of implementing the Cooperation Agreement concluded between the two countries in Rabat.
This action plan notably provides for the exchange of experiences in several areas of common interest, including environmental governance, climate change mitigation, waste management, ecological transition, blue economy, integrated coastal zone management, and environmental monitoring.
Both parties also committed to identifying and implementing joint actions, while working to mobilize funding from regional and international institutions.
Among the planned activities are study visits, training workshops, joint participation in international forums, and simulation exercises related to the fight against accidental marine pollution.
This action plan reflects the shared commitment of both countries to work together for environmental protection, the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the effective implementation of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
