Alassane Ouattara has been re-elected President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire for another five-year term, according to provisional results announced on Monday by the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI).

In power since 2011, Ouattara, the candidate of the Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), won by a landslide with 89.77% of the votes cast in the October 25 election, far ahead of Jean-Louis Billon, a dissident member of the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PDCI) who ran under the Democratic Congress (CODE) banner, and obtained 3.09% of the votes, according to CEI President Coulibaly-Kuibiert Ibrahime.

Former First Lady Simone Ehivet Gbagbo, candidate of the Capable Generations Movement (MGC), came in third with 2.42% of the votes, the CEI president added.

In fourth place was Ahoua Don Mello, a former member of Laurent Gbagbo’s African Peoples’ Party (PPA-CI), who ran as an independent candidate, securing 1.97% of the votes. Henriette Lagou, candidate of the Coalition of Political Partners for Peace (GP-Paix), came last with 1.15%.

The voter turnout reached 50.10%, according to Coulibaly-Kuibiert.

In accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Code, the final results of this election will be confirmed by the Constitutional Council after the period allowed for potential appeals regarding the validity of the vote.

A total of 8,568,456 voters were registered on the electoral roll, with 4,292,474 voters casting their ballots across 24,860 polling stations in Côte d’Ivoire and 289 polling stations abroad, according to the CEI president.
