During an official visit to Moscow, Nasser Bourita and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, sealed a new dynamic of cooperation, built on the continuity of the Advanced Strategic Partnership and a shared commitment to broadening bilateral horizons.

Relations between Morocco and Russia have entered a new phase of deepening ties. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, met on Thursday in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an atmosphere marked by mutual trust and convergence of views. This meeting represents an important step in strengthening the political and economic dialogue between the two nations.

Building on the Advanced Strategic Partnership established in March 2016 between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Vladimir Putin, this latest working meeting highlighted the solidity of bilateral relations and the shared vision of both Heads of State. The ministers praised the consistency of this relationship, nurtured by historical friendship and an expanding multifaceted cooperation.

Both senior officials reaffirmed their joint determination to elevate Moroccan–Russian relations to a higher level, commensurate with shared ambitions and existing strategic potential. They signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a Russo-Moroccan Working Committee between the two Foreign Ministries, tasked with assessing partnership achievements and identifying new high-value cooperation areas. This follow-up mechanism aims to ensure regular and coordinated progress in bilateral relations.

Bourita and Lavrov also agreed to maintain a permanent political dialogue and jointly monitor the implementation of agreements, thereby consolidating the foundations of a forward-looking partnership.

Their talks also addressed regional and international issues of common interest, particularly in North Africa, the Sahel, and the Middle East, underscoring the convergence of their positions on the need to promote stability and peace.

During his stay in Moscow, Morocco’s top diplomat co-chaired, alongside Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev, the 8th session of the Joint Cooperation Commission — a symbol of the renewed dynamism in relations between the two nations.

Since His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne, ties between Morocco and Russia have experienced remarkable growth, marked by two Royal Visits to Moscow, in 2002 and 2016, and an official visit by President Vladimir Putin to Morocco in 2006 — milestones that confirm the depth and vitality of the partnership between Rabat and Moscow.
