In Mauritius, the government has launched a major initiative aimed at digitizing the management of medical records and improving the efficiency of healthcare services.

Called “E-Health”, the project is based on a simple principle: “one patient, one record.” This reform is part of a broader strategy of innovation and a commitment to improving patient care.

From now on, every citizen will have a unique electronic medical file, accessible across all hospitals and health centers in the country. The rollout, already underway, includes training hospital staff in several pilot institutions.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Its cost is estimated at nearly 13 million dollars.

Authorities emphasize that the system, which is highly secure, will only be accessible to authorized professionals. This is expected to reduce the loss of paper records and streamline patient care pathways.

The data will be hosted in the government’s national data center, protected by international security protocols and continuous monitoring. Patients will also be able to access their records through an online portal and a mobile app, paving the way for more interactive and connected healthcare.
