Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara has been nominated as the candidate of his party, the Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for October 25.
This decision was made during the 2nd Ordinary Congress of the RHDP (June 21 and 22), just a few months before the presidential election and the removal of several opposition figures from the final electoral list. "I submit for the approval of the congress the decision to nominate President Alassane Ouattara as the RHDP candidate for the October 2025 elections,” declared Patrick Achi, president of the RHDP congress.
The nomination was adopted by acclamation.
For his part, Alassane Ouattara stated that the decision to run as the ruling party’s candidate, the Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), in the upcoming October presidential election in Côte d'Ivoire will be announced in the coming days.
Speaking on Sunday in Abidjan during a major rally held as part of his party’s 2nd ordinary congress, Ouattara said he had decided to make his position known on whether he would seek another term "in the coming days.”
"I will make a decision in the coming days, after deep reflection, in good conscience,” he said, continuing to maintain uncertainty about whether he will be a candidate or not in the upcoming election.
"I feel the strength and sincerity of your call; these calls I cannot ignore, I have heard them well, and I say with emotion, yes, I have heard you,” he told thousands of party members and supporters.
On another note, Ouattara once again assured that "these elections will be peaceful, democratic, and transparent. Everything will go well in peace and calm.”
