The Zimbabwean police are preparing to deploy drones in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD). The aim is to track and penalize traffic offenders.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Paul Nyathi, the drones are being deployed to enforce road traffic regulations. They will be integrated into the new Electronic Traffic Management System (ETMS) and will complement the existing surveillance cameras already used to monitor driver violations.
He added that these drones will enhance the ZRP’s ability to detect offenses within a 20-kilometer radius around the CBD and improve road safety compliance.
Additionally, the authorities have deployed surveillance systems in Bulawayo and plan to extend this initiative to other cities across Zimbabwe.
This deployment comes at a time when Harare is grappling with chaotic road conditions, largely caused by the influx of illegal taxis and kombis that frequently violate traffic regulations.
