FICAK. Rwandan Director Joel Karekezi to Chair the Jury

Rwandan director Joel Karekezi will chair the jury of the official competition at the 25th edition of the Khouribga International African Film Festival (FICAK), which will be held from June 21 to 28.

The jury for the 25th FICAK also includes Moroccan filmmaker Mohamed Ahde Bensouda, Malian actress and journalist Some Fatoumata Coulibaly, Sylviane Gboulou Mbapondo, the director of the Bangui Festival (Central African Republic), and Senegalese filmmaker Clarence Thoms Delgando, according to the FICAK Foundation, as reported by MAP.

As for the jury of the short film competition, it will be chaired by Moroccan film critic and journalist Bilal Mermid, alongside Chadian actor Youssouf Djaoro and the director of the International Women's Festival, Diara Moulidy (Mali).

Regarding the African Film Festival Award, a statement from FICAK notes that it will be chaired by François Akouabou Adianaga, head of the FESPACO department (Burkina Faso), along with Sylvie Nwet, president of the Yara Festival (Cameroon), and Diaw Djibril, director of the Image of the River Festival in Boghé (Mauritania).

The African Cine Clubs Award jury consists of Saber BenR’houma (Tunisia) as president, with Rachid Zaki (Morocco) and Daniel Atachali (Togo) as members.

The African Film Criticism Award jury includes Bayili Nebilibie Abraham (Burkina Faso) as president, with two other members, Touko Pierre Patrick (Cameroon) and Yasmine Bouchraf (Morocco).

Fifteen films representing 12 countries are in the running for the official competition for feature films, and fifteen short films (from 13 countries) are competing for awards in the short film competition at the 25th edition of this festival.

This edition, with Mauritania as the guest of honor, will also feature a conference on the link between cinema and artificial intelligence, aiming to address the profound transformations shaping the world.

Founded in 1977, FICAK is considered one of the oldest film festivals in Morocco and the third-largest African film festival on the continent.
