Ethiopia and the European Investment Bank have signed an agreement to boost the green economy and financial resilience.

The National Bank of Ethiopia and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have signed an agreement aimed at strengthening Ethiopia's efforts in building a sustainable financial system and promoting its green economy program.

The Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Solomon Desta, and the EIB Representative for Ethiopia and the African Union, Leila Traoré, signed the agreement in Addis Ababa.

This agreement highlights the growing international support for Ethiopia’s development goals, with the EIB ready to play a central role in strengthening the country’s financial infrastructure and climate resilience.

The EU Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sofie From-Emmesberger, hailed the agreement as a significant step, emphasizing the broader EU commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s development.

She stated that the EU and its development partners will continue to support Ethiopia in its efforts to achieve its long-term development goals.

Fromm-Emmesberger also highlighted that the involvement of the EIB aligns with the EU’s support for Ethiopia's green growth ambitions.

Vice-Governor Solomon Desta called this agreement an essential tool for deepening cooperation between the two institutions and fostering financial stability. He also emphasized its potential to significantly support the country's transition to a green economy and strengthen efforts to adapt to climate change.

Leila Traoré added that the agreement will be implemented under the guidance of the National Bank of Ethiopia, providing crucial support to the financial sector and the broader framework of green growth.
