Beninese President Patrice Talon has reiterated that he will not seek a third term, which is prohibited by the Constitution, while emphasizing that he remains "attentive" regarding the choice of his successor.
"Once again, let me tell you: no, I will not be a candidate," Talon stated in an interview with Jeune Afrique.
"This question irritates me. I myself reinforced the Constitution to stipulate that no one can serve more than two terms in their lifetime," the Beninese president clarified.
Patrice Talon has been leading Benin since 2016 and will complete his second term in 2026.
