Moroccan security services once again distinguished themselves with the swift arrest, on Sunday, 23 February 2025 in Marrakech – at the request of France – of two accomplices of Mohamed Amra, the French drug trafficker who was most wanted.
Immediately after receiving a request from their French counterparts, just after the arrest of Mohamed Amra in Romania, Moroccan security services apprehended two key suspects involved in the spectacular escape of this drug trafficker.
The promptness with which the Moroccan DGSN executed the request of its French counterpart once again confirms the effectiveness of the security measures implemented under the leadership of Abdellatif Hammouchi.
Mohamed Amra was France’s most wanted fugitive following his prison escape in May 2024. The two arrested accomplices are accused by French authorities of having been members of the commando that participated in the deadly attack on a prison van in France, which enabled Amra to escape. This attack cost the lives of two prison officers. The Moroccan security services acted with exemplary speed, leading to the arrest of these accomplices (A. G. and A. D.).
The arrest of Mohamed Amra in Romania, a repeat offender, after nine months of intense pursuit, marks the end of one of the largest manhunts in Europe.
This joint operation illustrates the professionalism and excellent coordination between France and Morocco in the fight against transnational crime.
