President Alassane Ouattara has addressed speculation about his potential candidacy for the presidential election scheduled for October.
"As of today, I have not yet made a decision, but I want to reassure you that I am in good health and remain committed to serving my country," President Ouattara stated during a New Year’s greeting ceremony with the diplomatic corps on Thursday, January 9, 2025, in Abidjan, according to the Ivorian Press Agency.
The president also affirmed that he had no regrets about accepting his political party’s proposal in 2020. He highlighted that the Rassemblement des Houphouëtistes pour la Démocratie et la Paix (RHDP) has “half a dozen qualified leaders” who are capable of running for the presidency.
President Ouattara reiterated his commitment to ensuring a "peaceful, democratic, and transparent" election.
The diplomatic corps' New Year’s greeting ceremony marks the beginning of a series of well-wishing events from various institutional bodies to the President of the Republic.
