Food insecurity in Niger is a scourge affecting a large portion of the population, caused by various factors such as extreme climatic conditions, conflicts, economic instability, and diseases.

The World Bank has announced a $1 billion funding to support the agriculture and livestock sectors in Niger over a period of twelve years.

This initiative is part of the Livestock and Agriculture Modernization Project (LAMP). It will focus on the adoption of climate-smart technologies, the improvement of irrigation systems, and the promotion of good agricultural and livestock practices.

The goal is to increase productivity, strengthen food security, and enhance the climate resilience of 1.5 million Nigeriens, while also facilitating local entrepreneurs' access to financing.

In the long term, the LAMP project aims to reinforce the food and nutritional security of 5 million Nigeriens and improve climate resilience for 3 million of them.
