Like many African countries, Burkina Faso is making considerable efforts to integrate information and communication technologies (ICT) into various key sectors such as public administration, education, health, commerce, and agriculture.

Burkina Faso is about to launch its Digital Transformation Acceleration Project (PACTDIGITAL). The Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) has approved a $150 million loan from the World Bank, through the International Development Association (IDA), for the project’s implementation.

With digital transformation at the heart of the Burkinabe government's development initiatives, this project aims to improve accessibility and adoption of digital services across the country, particularly in rural areas and among marginalized groups.

"Specifically, the main direct beneficiaries of the project are a significant number of individuals, particularly women, youth, people with disabilities, internally displaced persons, host communities, and public employees, that is to say, civil servants, teachers and trainers, private companies, formal and informal training institutes, local incubators, and associations. The project covers the entire national territory while taking security imperatives into account," said the Minister of Digital Transition, Posts and Electronic Communications, Aminata Zerbo Sabane.

This project is a continuation of the recently completed West African Regional Communications Infrastructure Project (WARCIP-BF) and the e-Burkina project.

Its implementation should significantly reduce the still-high digital divide in the country.

This digital transformation process aims to modernize the country, improve access to public and private services, and stimulate innovation and economic growth.
