Morocco has been crowned the African team tennis champion in the under-14 category for both boys and girls, following the competition held from May 6 to 11 in Tunisia, thereby securing its spot in the World Cup scheduled for August in the Czech Republic.
Under the guidance of coach Hamid Abderrazak, the national boys' team, consisting of Reda El Aouni, Mehdi Laabi, and Sami Iraqui Houssaini, prevailed in the group phase against Algeria, Tunisia, and Uganda before winning the semi-final with a 3-0 score against their South African counterparts and the final against the Tunisian team by the same score.
The girls' team, led by national coach El Ghaba Mohamed and comprising Yassmine Douib, Meryem Achouri, and Lara Faraj, won the championship in their category with victories over Tunisia, Algeria, and Zimbabwe in the group stages.
In the semi-final, the girls' tennis team defeated their South African counterparts with a score of 3-0, and in the final, they overcame Egypt by the same score.
Thanks to this triumph, Morocco has secured its ticket to the World Tennis Cup to be held in the Czech Republic next August.
In a statement to MAP, Zakaria Zemrani, a member of the executive committee of the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation, highlighted the team spirit, cohesion, and harmony among the young Moroccan players and the quality of the coaching, which enabled such a remarkable journey, crowned by the African title.
He added that this achievement further enriches Morocco's track record in this sport, where the Kingdom has been crowned champion in several age categories at the African level, earning it the trophy for Best Tennis Nation in Africa in 2024, for the sixth consecutive year.
