After defeating their Zambian counterparts at home, the Moroccan women's soccer team is just one game away from securing their spot in the Olympic Games (Paris-2024). The same goes for the Nigerian team, although their match against the South Africans is expected to be more perilous.
The Moroccan team claimed a 2-1 victory over Zambia on their home turf on Friday, April 5th, in Ndola, during the first leg of the fourth and final round of African Olympic qualifiers (Paris-2024).
Zineb Redouani scored the opening goal for the Atlas Lionesses (45 1), while Rosella Ayane netted the winning goal in the very last minute (45 4). Zambia's goal was scored by Lushomo Mweemba (80th minute).
The return match will take place at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat at 10:00 PM.
In the previous round, the Moroccan women's team had outperformed Tunisia, while Zambia had advanced at the expense of Ghana. Thus, the Atlas Lionesses are close to clinching one of the two qualifying spots for the upcoming Olympics reserved for the African continent.
The other spot is contested between Nigeria and South Africa. The Nigerian Super Falcons have also taken a significant step toward Paris. Asisat Oshoala's teammates won their match 1-0 thanks to a penalty converted by Rasheedat Ajibade at the 43rd minute.
The return match will not be easy for either team, both known for their competitiveness.
So, the matches to watch are Morocco vs. Zambia and South Africa vs. Nigeria on Tuesday, April 9.
