The 3rd edition of the African space industry conference "NewSpace Africa" will take place from April 2 to 5 in the Angolan capital, Luanda, under the theme "The role of space in reducing poverty in Africa," the organizers announced on Saturday.

During the 2024 edition of "NewSpace Africa", participants will focus on the challenges of the sector and examine mechanisms to further introduce geospatial technology in the development of the continent's economies, the National Office for Space Program Management (GGPEN) stated in a press release.

The same source adds that this high-level gathering will highlight the transformative potential of space initiatives in combating socio-economic disparities in Africa and will allow discussions on how to leverage space technologies, including satellite communications, remote sensing, and geospatial data.

The event aims to revolutionize several sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, climate change, security, and infrastructure development, it continued.

Similarly, the Office emphasized that the conference will explore all aspects of space technology and satellites, including business opportunities in Africa, while underlining the potential impact of cooperation frameworks among stakeholders to achieve common industry goals on the continent.

"As African governments step up their efforts and investments to develop their space ecosystems, more companies should establish a presence on the continent," it was noted, highlighting the need to create environments conducive to the development of technological innovation.

This conference, considered the main space event in Africa, will bring together African policymakers, representatives of national space agencies, commercial space businesses, investors, and other key stakeholders in the African space and satellite industry.
