The Guinean Football Federation (FGF) is entering a new chapter in its history with the election of Mamady Doumbouya as its president. Aged 34, he was elected on Tuesday in Conakry during an Extraordinary Elective General Assembly for a four-year term.
According to the Guinean Press Agency (AGP), the new president secured 21 of the 52 votes cast, ahead of Mamadou Antonio Souaré, who received 18 votes, and Ibrahima Kalil Kaba, who obtained 13. Chérif Haïdara, who was also in the running, received no votes.
Director General of Guinea's Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Mamady Doumbouya becomes, at 34, the youngest president in the FGF's history. He succeeds Sory Doumbouya, who had been leading the federation since May 2025.
The election comes amid a series of leadership changes in Guinean football, marked by challenges related to the federation's governance. The new president will therefore take office in an environment where management issues and institutional stability remain major concerns.
As a reminder, Aboubacar "Bouba" Sampil, who was elected FGF president in January 2024, was removed from office in May 2025 following disputes over the federation's governance and management.
Mamady Doumbouya's appointment as head of the federation thus marks a new phase for Guinean football, at a time when expectations regarding governance and the institution's effective functioning remain high.
