Côte d’Ivoire’s economic capital, Abidjan, is preparing to host the International Conference on Sustainable Mobility and Climate (CIMDC 2026) from October 19 to 22, an event dedicated to the challenges of the ecological transformation of transport.

Held under the auspices of Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs, the conference will bring together nearly 1,500 participants from around 40 countries, according to Ivorian media citing the organizers. Experts, public decision-makers, donors and representatives of civil society are notably expected to attend.

The main sessions, scheduled for October 20 and 21, will focus on four major themes: the integration of mobility and urban planning, governance and financing for sustainability, sustainable mobility in the face of climate challenges, and technological and social innovations.

The program also includes panel discussions, roundtables, thematic workshops and field visits. Several side events have also been announced, including sessions dedicated to the International Biodiversity Coalition and the Coalition of West African Coastal Cities.

The highlight of the conference, the adoption of the "Abidjan Declaration,” is expected to help establish common priorities for sustainable urban mobility in Africa. The document also aims to present a coordinated position on transport-related climate issues during upcoming international climate negotiations.
