Ethiopia’s outgoing Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, was officially reappointed on Monday for a new five-year term as head of government.
The reappointment comes following the general elections held on June 1. The House of Peoples’ Representatives, formed following the election, held its first session on Monday, marking the opening of the new legislature.
During this inaugural session, Abiy Ahmed, candidate of the Prosperity Party (PP), the party that came first in the elections, was sworn in and thus begins a new five-year term as Prime Minister.
The head of government begins this new term within Ethiopia’s bicameral parliamentary system, composed of the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the House of Federation.
