Faced with the rising cost of living and growing concerns over purchasing power, the government announced on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the creation of a new “Price Police.”

The system will be managed by a Joint Control Brigade (BMC), tasked with strengthening the monitoring of commercial practices throughout the country.

This new structure notably targets traders who fail to comply with price regulations. Through increased inspections, the authorities intend to better regulate pricing practices and ensure compliance with the rules by economic operators.

A Brigade to Coordinate Inspections

The BMC will also be responsible for centralizing economic and health inspections in order to facilitate coordination between the various competent services. The objective is to harmonize field operations and improve the effectiveness of inspections among traders.

This organization should enable the authorities to have a more coordinated mechanism for monitoring markets and detecting practices that could penalize consumers.

Purchasing Power at the Heart of the System

The creation of this “Price Police” comes as the high cost of living remains a major concern for households. The government thus intends to strengthen inspection mechanisms to combat commercial practices that violate regulations and contribute to protecting purchasing power.

It remains to be seen how this new system will be deployed on the ground. Its effectiveness will notably depend on the frequency of inspections, the resources allocated to teams and the authorities’ ability to effectively enforce regulations.

With the establishment of the BMC, the government is thus demonstrating its intention to strengthen trade regulation and take firmer action against practices that may contribute to rising prices.
