Morocco has climbed three places in the latest edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII), published on September 29, 2026, by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The country now ranks 54th globally.

Mauritius remains Africa’s top-ranked country, placing 50th worldwide.

Morocco’s progress is driven in particular by industrial development and the growing use of intangible assets. The country stands out in areas such as industrial designs, intangible asset intensity, trademarks and high-tech manufacturing.

WIPO also highlights Morocco’s long-term progress among middle-income economies. The Kingdom ranks alongside countries such as China, India, Vietnam, Türkiye, the Philippines and Indonesia among economies that have made significant advances in innovation.

At the African level, Morocco ranks ahead of South Africa, which stands 63rd globally, as well as Tunisia in 71st place and Egypt in 83rd.
