The Republic of Liberia reaffirmed on Thursday, September 10, in Rabat, its longstanding position in support of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.
This position was reiterated by Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, following talks with her Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.
Liberia’s top diplomat stressed that her country, which serves as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, intends to work closely with Morocco and support it during the upcoming discussions on the Sahara issue, scheduled to take place at the UN body in October 2026.
Beyond the Sahara issue, Sara Beysolow Nyanti highlighted the strength of relations between Rabat and Monrovia, expressing both countries’ determination to maintain and further strengthen this positive momentum.
The Liberian minister also emphasized her country’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Morocco, particularly in the diplomatic, cultural, and economic fields, with the aim of advancing the shared interests of both countries and their peoples.
This renewed expression of Liberian support comes just weeks ahead of an important diplomatic milestone: the upcoming discussions on the Sahara issue at the UN Security Council, expected in October 2026.
Monrovia’s position thus further strengthens Moroccan-Liberian relations and comes amid increased diplomatic activity surrounding the Sahara issue ahead of the upcoming UN discussions.
