The Ugandan and Rwandan armies have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening military cooperation and preserving peace and stability along their shared border.
The commitment was reiterated on Saturday in Mbarara, western Uganda, during the eighth Proximity Commanders’ Meeting. According to a statement issued by the Ugandan army on Sunday, the meeting brought together several senior military officials from both countries to discuss security issues and the concerns of communities living in border areas.
The discussions focused in particular on the security challenges facing communities on both sides of the border, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation between the Ugandan and Rwandan armed forces.
Deputy Commander of the Ugandan Land Forces, Felix Busizoori, stressed the importance of such meetings in consolidating peace and security. According to him, they also help strengthen mutual understanding between the two armies and improve their working methods.
Felix Busizoori also emphasized the importance of closer cooperation between Kampala and Kigali to promote the region’s economic development. However, he acknowledged the existence of several challenges, including cultural differences, geopolitical developments, and constraints related to available resources.
Speaking on behalf of the Rwandan military delegation, Ruki Karusisi praised the efforts of the Ugandan army leadership to strengthen relations between the two forces.
Through this latest meeting, Kampala and Kigali have once again demonstrated their commitment to maintaining military dialogue and making cross-border cooperation a key driver of stability and development for communities living along the border.
