The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has taken a new step in its digital transformation by deploying body-worn cameras, surveillance drones, and a 24/7 WhatsApp alert service.
This modernization aims to improve the speed of police interventions, enhance transparency within law enforcement, and strengthen the relationship between security services and citizens.
Authorities believe these new technological tools will help prevent crime more effectively by enabling faster information sharing and more efficient handling of public reports.
The body-worn cameras will record interactions between police officers and citizens to improve accountability, while the drones will be used to monitor public gatherings, support law enforcement operations, and assist in search missions.
At the same time, the ZRP has expanded its digital platforms, allowing residents to report crimes or share intelligence directly with the police without having to visit a police station.
The initiative has been widely welcomed by many members of the public, who particularly appreciate the round-the-clock availability of the WhatsApp service. Citizens see it as a faster and more convenient way to report suspicious activities, request police assistance, and receive support, especially during emergencies.
