Ghana has reaffirmed its support for Morocco's Autonomy Plan, describing it as the only realistic and sustainable basis for reaching a mutually acceptable solution to the Sahara issue.
The position was outlined in the joint communiqué issued on Tuesday in Accra, following talks between Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita and his Ghanaian counterpart, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Accra also welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, which renews support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to advance the political process aimed at achieving a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution.
The support expressed by Ghana is part of the diplomatic momentum led by Morocco in favor of its Autonomy Initiative, which continues to gain growing international backing.
Nasser Bourita's working visit to Ghana was also marked by the co-chairing, alongside his Ghanaian counterpart, of the second session of the Morocco–Ghana Joint Cooperation Commission.
