May 14, 2026 marked an important milestone in relations between Morocco and Syria. In Rabat, Nasser Bourita held talks with Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, who was leading a large delegation.

The two officials welcomed the positive momentum in their relations and expressed their determination to give them renewed impetus.

The objective was to develop multisectoral cooperation based on dialogue, coordination and the pursuit of shared interests for the benefit of both peoples. The visit was also marked by a highly symbolic gesture.

In the presence of Nasser Bourita, Syria’s top diplomat officially reopened the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Rabat. The Syrian flag was raised above the diplomatic mission, formally marking the resumption of its activities.

At the political level, Syria affirmed its full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its sovereignty over its entire territory. It also welcomed the sustained efforts of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, in support of the holy city and its inhabitants.

The day therefore opened a new chapter—one of acknowledged diplomatic rapprochement and cooperation set to grow stronger.
