Burkina Faso has decided to suspend all beauty pageants organized within its territory while a new regulatory framework is being developed to better govern such events.

In a statement released on June 8, 2026, the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism announced the temporary suspension of all beauty competitions, whether national, regional, or local.

According to the authorities, the measure is part of a broader reform process aimed at establishing more rigorous and harmonized rules for the organization of these events across the country.

The government explained that the initiative reflects its commitment to preserving, promoting, and enhancing the nation’s cultural heritage, in line with the principles of the Popular Progressive Revolution.

The forthcoming regulations will be designed to ensure respect for Burkina Faso’s cultural identity, moral and social values, as well as the principles of ethics and human dignity.

Pending the adoption of this new regulatory framework, no beauty pageant-related events will be permitted in Burkina Faso. The ministry also specified that no authorizations will be granted for such events during this transitional period.

Through this decision, the authorities aim to further regulate and structure a sector considered to require stronger oversight, while safeguarding the country’s cultural values.

The ministry concluded by stating that the measure takes effect immediately and that its strict enforcement will be ensured throughout the national territory.
