Defense Minister Sadio Camara, 47, one of the pillars of the ruling authorities, was killed in Kati, a town near the capital Bamako, during the attacks.
In response to the situation, President Assimi Goïta has decided to assume the duties of Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, according to a decree read on Monday on ORTM, nine days after General Camara’s death.
Mr. Goïta will be assisted in this new role by the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, General Oumar Diarra, who has been appointed “Delegate Minister to the Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs,” according to a separate decree also read on ORTM.
