Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been appointed chairperson of the Summit of Heads of State of the East African Community (EAC) during the bloc’s 25th summit held in Arusha.

Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was designated chairperson of the Summit of Heads of State of the East African Community during the organization’s 25th ordinary summit, held on March 9, 2026, in Arusha, Tanzania, according to an official statement from the regional bloc.

He succeeds Kenyan President William Ruto under the organization’s annual rotating chairmanship system.

Founded in 2000, the East African Community now has eight member states and aims to strengthen economic integration, the common market, and regional cooperation in East Africa.
