The transitional president of Guinea-Bissau, Horta Inta-A, has set December 6, 2026, as the date for legislative and presidential elections in the country, according to a presidential decree.
The decree states that this decision falls within the framework of the Political Transition Charter, approved on November 27, 2025, which establishes the legal and political mechanisms governing the restoration of constitutional and democratic order in Guinea-Bissau.
The document also emphasizes that the necessary conditions for organizing "free, fair, and transparent” elections are currently being put in place.
As part of consultations related to the preparation of the vote, the president of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), N’Pabi Cabi, told the press, following a meeting with Mr. Inta-A, that the organization of the elections would require the acquisition of equipment.
The decree specifies that it takes effect immediately.
