The opening ceremony of the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON Morocco 2025), presided over on Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, reflects Morocco’s commitment to promoting African football, the Presidency of the Union of the Comoros stated.
In a message posted on social media, the Presidency of the Union of the Comoros praised the successful organization of both the opening ceremony and the opening match between the Atlas Lions and the Coelacanths, noting that this success reflects the professionalism of the Kingdom and its dedication to the development and global visibility of African football.
The Presidency of the Union of the Comoros also congratulated the Atlas Lions on their victory and on “this strong start to the competition.”
“AFCON 2025 has thus been launched in a spirit of sportsmanship, fraternity, and fair play among African nations,” the same source added.
Following the opening ceremony of AFCON Morocco 2025, held under the presidency of Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and in the presence of the Comorian President, the Moroccan national football team defeated its Comorian counterpart 2–0 in the tournament’s opening match. With this victory, Morocco (3 points) temporarily takes the lead in Group A.
